Yesterday I went to meet my new doctor to talk about my second operation. Today, I had to return to the doctor for my nasal endoscopy. I have had one before which caught me by surprise in the middle of trying to find the primary cancer. The process did not hurt but was uncomfortable because I did not know it was going to happen and what to expect. I remember coughing and spluttering everywhere! Today’s endoscopy was so smoother and I did not feel the tube travelling down my sinus passage.
My new doctor showed me the results via the camera and talked me through where the primary tumour is which is a small spot found at base of tongue. Really fascinating listening to the doctors findings and the doctor repeated the talk so that I could video and provided commentary, helping me to keep Rob in the loop.
Finally it looks like the primary tumour has been found and we can move on to the next stage of my cancer journey. Another operation feels daunting, especially as I am still healing from the first operation but the tumour has to be removed so I try not to think too deeply at this stage to help me stay calm.
My operation is going to take place on the 28th November which is around 3 weeks to recover before the Christmas holidays start. I am pleased about this because it means I can try and switch off too for the Christmas holidays and try and enjoy some family time instead of being all about me and Cancer.
The surgery is going to be performed Robotically because of the area and how sensitive this area is. This is pioneering treatment for head and neck patients so I count myself lucky.
